Spring brings us out of hibernation...

I know it's been a REALLY long time since we've updated here, but to be honest, not a heck of a lot has happened.  This winter has been long and snowy in New York, which slowed progress on the landscaping & hardscaping projects, and we also ran into an issue with the town regarding needing some additional drainage work because of the pool and new hardscaping.  So, basically, we're just about where we left off in November, except a lot poorer, less patient, and muddier!
The good news is, it looks like we should get the permit & drainage issues straightened out this week or next week at the latest, so work can begin again soon on the pool and finishing up the last of the stonework.  Then hopefully on to landscaping--which I say with a grain of salt since we're past the limits of our budget, and if we do any landscaping at all it's probably going to consist of me doing it myself.  In all my spare time as the mother of twins who are about to start toddling!!

Anyway.  Our contractor has been helping us bide our time by sending us some lovely computer generated images of what we might consider for landscaping when the time comes.  These are fun little mockups, and definitely help us envision the end result (someday).  Plus, it's cheerful to at least pretend I have some flowering plants in my yard right now!

And a rendering of the pool, which currently is a large hole in our back yard.  I have no idea who all these skinny people are.  Squatters, I guess.

I will never forget when a friend was doing a renovation/restoration project similar to yours, except that she was having a crappy old pool taken out and replaced. The landscaper gave her an estimate of $250,000 which did not surprise her due to the complexity of pool removal, rebuilding of pool and retaining walls, and a TON of landscaping, earth moving, plant materials, etc. Then she found out that price was ONLY for removing the old pool!!! She almost went into shock.

They ended up filling in the old pool and doing a lot of gorgeous landscaping.

How many months of the year can you use a pool in your part of NY?

JoAnn, that story does not surprise me in the least! It's expensive to do this stuff--and way more so in NY than in warmer climates.
We can generally use a pool here from Memorial Day to Labor Day though I plan to keep ours open several weeks to a month longer on each end of that season, and just pay the extra large propane bill those months! As I had to explain to the husband, I'm from Florida, and you can't deprive a southern girl of her swimmin' hole!

Just wondering what child-proofing security measures you will take with the pool?

Will you get a solar cover for it?

When I lived in CT I had a wonderful neighbor who shared her pool with me (there were only houses on the street so it was an easy sharing situation). Her solar cover kept that pool toasty even in those "shoulder" months of May and September.

Well that chick leaning on the air matress looks chubby. She could be me. She should have a neon pink floaty noodle though, not that dumb thing.:P
